Carrie's blog

Alternate Dimension

Thu, 01/16/2014 - 11:58 — Carrie

I am Massachusetts Carrie.

I'm single, I live with my roomates, I work as a nanny for three kids, I go to church with my family, I hang out with my friends here, I drive around the towns where I grew up. My life has a very familiar pattern.

But there's another Carrie. Oregon Carrie.

Autumn

Fri, 10/18/2013 - 12:15 — Carrie

Leaves.

Orange, Red, Green and Gold.

Swirl, swing, fly, flee.

Air smells crisp, apples are crisper

Wind blows my hair, whips in my eyes.

Sunshine dapples through the trees,

Blues of sky and whites of clouds

Mix with colors, mix with smells

Mix with emotion and air and sound

Air fills my lungs

I breathe deep.

New England is my home

Memories of Autumns come back to me

Running through leaves

Flopping in piles

Media and Personhood and Other Rambles of My Mind

Wed, 10/16/2013 - 13:01 — Carrie

Sometimes my thoughts get jumbled in my head and I have to write them down to make sense of them. Sometimes I write them down in my blog and you get to priviledge of reading them. This blog is one of those times.

Be forewarned, I have no idea what I'm about to write and what conclusion I shall arrive at.

There's a lot of talk these days around the internet about media and technology and paying attention to children. i.e., "Put down the smart phone and spend quality time with your children!"

Lemonade

Mon, 10/14/2013 - 20:58 — Carrie

If life gives me lemons, must I make lemonade? What if I prefer lemon cake, or lemon pie? Perhaps I want to make lemon juice! Is lemon juice even a thing?

Sometimes life hands us things and we're expected to make certain choices, and do certian things, but we don't want to, or we decide to do something different. That's not always wrong, I think. In fact, sometimes that's good. It can be good to take a step away from the ordinary and chance something new.

On the other hand, sometimes the best thing is a cool, refreshing glass of lemonade. ^_^

Blessing

Tue, 10/01/2013 - 13:10 — Carrie

A few weeks ago I began a new bible study with a group of women nearby. We've been using a particular book to go along with it, and something written in the book recently stood out to me. It was talking about trusting God, through good times and bad times, and said "when you trust God, He will bless you for it".

This got me thinking about God's blessing in our lives. It's true, God does bless us when we trust HIm. But sometimes, God blesses us when we haven't been trusting Him.

Life Changes

Fri, 09/27/2013 - 15:03 — Carrie

It's been too long since I've written here. Far far too long.

So much has changed since I last wrote! I meant to be off and away by this time, and here I am, still in my little house in Auburn. And I'm so very happy these days. ^_^

Life is such a trip

Mon, 12/31/2012 - 23:24 — Carrie

My birthday is just about exactly halfway through the year, so each New Years and Birthday I take the time to reflect on the year that's passed and consider how the next year will go. I like that I do it every half year.

Empty

Fri, 12/07/2012 - 22:06 — Carrie

Some things are better off empty. Empty trashcans. Empty laundry baskets. Empty sinks. But some things are not. Like me. I’m not better off when I’m empty. And I’m not talking about the stomach kind of empty. No, this is a much deeper empty. An empty that can’t be taken care of with a small meatball pizza from the corner pizza shop. (On special for $3.99!)

Thankfulness

Fri, 12/07/2012 - 22:04 — Carrie

Sometimes life has too many choices in it. Sometimes we can get caught up all there is to do we forget to appreciate how many things we have in life that are wonderful. So what do you have that’s wonderful? What do you have that you are glad you have?

Sometimes

Fri, 12/07/2012 - 14:42 — Carrie

Sometimes life is everything we wanted

Sometimes it's not

Sometimes plans go the way we expected

Sometimes they don't

Sometimes people will act the way you think they will

Sometimes they won't

Sometimes you can plan your life and it all goes according to plan

Sometimes it doesn't
